Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford has awarded scholarships for the 2012-2013 academic year to seniors at Cherokee High School, Chisholm High School, Enid High School, Oklahoma Bible Academy, Pond Creek-Hunter High School and Ringwood High School.

Samantha Hamburger - Pond Creek-Hunter High School - $1000 Freshman Scholarship.

  A local graduate has been awarded a scholarship from Farm Credit of Enid to attend college this fall.

  Deer Creek-Lamont High School graduate Connor Kirby is the son of Kyle and Barbara Kirby of Lamont. He plans to attend Oklahoma State University.

  The $1,000 scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic performance, extracurricular participation, work experience and leadership activities. An independent panel of judges selects the winning candidates.

  The 2012 Summer Reading Program is open to all ages, but is geared toward the elementary school age. The theme this year is "Dream Big - READ!" Registration for the summer reading program begins on May 21 at the Medford Public Library.

  The programs will be held every Wednesday morning in June at 10:30 a.m. They will last approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Refreshments will be served at the end of the program.
